The Beginning : A Myr-aculous Start

While I have been crocheting for a great portion of my life, I have always had the dream of creating my own patterns. I always saw these great blogs with cute little creatures pictured and instructions on how to make my very own. I love how the people behind such posts were willing to share their creative knowledge with the rest of us. I thought that if they could create and upload patterns for others, why couldn't I? However, every time I finally brought myself to start writing things down, I lost all creativity, motivation, or both.

Well, things changed this summer when one of my close friends was visiting for the summer. He expressed great interest in a character called "Silver Myr" (pronounced 'meer') from the card game "Magic the Gathering". He asked if I could possibly make one, and not being one to turn down a challenge, I said yes.

It took some time, but I successfully created my first pattern. Hope you enjoy!

Silver Myr

Materials

  • Silver/ Light Grey fingering weight yarn*

  • 2.0 mm for key chain

  • Stuffing

  • Felt in light blue and light grey

  • Yarn needle

  • 6 mm safety eyes (or some black felt)

*I made mine to be small enough to be a keychain, but it can be a pain to crochet so small. If you would rather not crochet so small, use worsted weight yarn and a 3.5mm hook instead. I don't know the exact size of the eyes, but my guess would be to try 8mm. Either way, you can experiment with the size of safety eyes to achieve the look you're going for.

Assembly

First, sew the lower body to the upper body after pinning in place and making sure everything looks good.

Pin the legs and arms in place and sew on to body. After sewing on the arms and legs pin the head into position and sew it to the body as well.

After everything is sewn together, weave in all ends. Now we get to glue on some felt!

For the head cut two blue circles and two grey circles that are slightly smaller. Glue each grey circle to a blue circle once you are satisfied with their sizes. Position and glue to head.

For the arm circles you will do the same as the head circles, but smaller. Glue onto upper part of each arm.

Add a key chain if you'd like and you're finished! You can stick with one myr friend or you can switch up the colours and make your own myr army full of iron, silver or gold myr, or whatever other myr you'd like.
